Ana pun susah nak ulas bab pelabuhan Penang ni. Ana tengok, tak ada salahnya kalau usahawan Melayu/Islam nak pegang kepentingan dalam pelabuhan tu. Baguslah kalau industri strategik orang kita yang pegang. Kalau dia mampu apa salahnya. Lagi pulak orang yang kaya macam Syed Mokhtar. Elok sangat. Apa yang Guan Eng marah sangat? Tak suka Syed Mokhtar? Ke tak suka orang Islam pandai meniaga?
PPSB managing director Datuk Ahmad Ibnihajar had said yesterday PPSB made a net profit of RM15 million last year, contradicting Penang Port Commission (PPC) Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s assertion that it only earned RM180,000.
He also said that dredging the port to 14.5 metres to approach channel depth from the current 11.5 metres, a project that has been shelved by the federal government, would be a key driver to increase transshipment services from five to 20 per cent.
Syed Mokhtar ini bukan kecik anak. Kita tengok apa pengalaman dia:-
“In 1995, Seaport Terminal built Malaysia’s first dedicated container port at Tanjung Pelepas from scratch. In less than 10 years, we were able to grow PTP into the largest container terminal in Malaysia and the 17th busiest port in the world. In 2000, it handled 423,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container cargo. In 2011, it handled 7.5 million TEUs.
“In 1995, we also privatised Pasir Gudang Port, which we have developed into a premier regional port.
“Today, Pasir Gudang Port is a major multi-purpose port with the world’s largest palm-oil storage facility. It is one of the few ports in the world to be accorded the London Metal Exchange accreditation for storage of commodities. At the point of the privatisation in 1995, the port was handling 238,000 TEUs of containers and one million tonnes in conventional cargo.
“In 2011, Pasir Gudang Port handled 830,700 TEUs of containers and 16.9 million tonnes in conventional cargo.
“Both PTP and Pasir Gudang Port have played an important role in catalysing the economic growth of Johor as well as the country. We are confident that we will be able to do the same in Penang,” it added.
