Tenaganita executive director Irene Fernandez said many of the statements attributed to her in a Jakarta Post interview were correctly portrayed.
She also confirmed saying that the Malaysian Government had no legal framework nor a specific law to protect workers and that it upheld discrimination against housemaids and plantation workers.
She said plantation workers faced numerous forms of discrimination, such as wage difference and were more exposed to health hazards, including chemicals and pesticides.
Fernandez said she had told the newspaper that Malaysian employers “could act with impunity” but disputed a part of the interview where she was quoted as saying that Malaysian employers “bought” court verdicts when workers sued them.
On the death of three Indonesians, she confirmed she had commented that Malaysian police had no right to shoot them dead even if they were suspected criminals.
Ganti Dr Lo’ Lo’ amacam? Boleh menang tak agaknya?
